Africa in My Skin Wins US Graphic Design Award for St. Martin Book Publisher

GREAT BAY, Saint-Martin (August 2, 2021)—HNP won the 2021 American Inhouse Graphic Design Award for África en mi skin / Africa in My Skin / Africa in the skinaccording to Gordon Kaye, editor at Graphic Design USA (GDUSA).

The winning cover of the trilingual poetry collection by Rafael Nino Féliz, a Dominican educator, was designed by Gina Rombley of BEOS, Inc.

House of Nehesi Publishers (HNP) received the award in July on behalf of both GDUSA companies in New York, said Jacqueline Sample, president of St. Martin’s Independent Press.

This year marks the 58and anniversary of the GDUSA design awards. “We saw over 6,800 entries; only the richest 10%, including you! — have been selected as the winners,” Awards Director Sasha Kaye-Walsh wrote to PNH in a July 29 email.

Among the brands and companies that won the 2021 Graphic Design Award are “AARP, Amazon, American Bar Association, Art Institute of Chicago, Citibank, Doritos, E&J Gallo Winery, Gatorade, National Community Pharmacists Association, PepsiCo, Prudential, State Farm, Walmart , and many more,” according to Kaye-Walsh.

“A big thank you to Gina Rombley for her awesome book cover design,” said Sample. “Thank you also to GDUSA for selecting HNP as one of its winners in 2021.”

Sample also congratulated “Professor Rafael Nino Féliz. I can’t thank him enough for deciding to publish África en mi skin / Africa in My Skin / Africa in the skin with the PNH.

HNP also won the GDUSA award in 2017 and 2018, with covers by Carole Maugé-Lewis for Plastered in Pretty by NC Marks and Language, culture and identity in Saint-Martin by Rhoda Arrindell, Said Sample.
